Pavel suggests in “Fiction and the Ontological Landscape,” these might include delightfully intriguing categories such as “discarded ontologies,” “ontological ruins,” and “ontological relics.” To this we can add nonhuman ontologies that by their very nature are impossible to grasp for human-shaped minds. The archive could also serve as a sort of “ontological training ground... to train the members of the community in such abilities as rapid induction, construction of hypotheses, positing of possible worlds, etc.” In the context of design, it could serve as a resource for moving beyond futures as the primary way of framing the “not here, not now.” Essentially, a place that celebrates the ontological imagination...</image:caption>

But now, as I lay dying alone in my Sunnyside estate, the cold Hudson air rushes through my mind, and a secondary fondness begins to reveal itself. The slow and deliberate drift of my mind begins to register memories of a great palace. Is it possible that this dream is nothing more than a reality in an unexpected dimension, a metaphysical reckoning? The previous evening, perched high upon my balcony, I observed a field of shadowy foes. 53 This army 145 of voids was echoed in their gridded dance by inked projections, partners given voice by the tempered light of a perfectly ethereal 117 moon...</image:caption>

Agents work together to produce an ark for the “Rogue EPA” which encodes climate data into temporally active spatialities. Thomas Cole’s “The Course of Empire” paintings are used as an analogous vehicle for the narrative of construction and context. The ever-shifting water erodes down the site until the delineation between natural land and built form are lost, while the soil is bleached red from the abundance of tidal salt, transferring the map onto the very land it represents. But what if we radically reversed this planetary sprawl and retreated from our vast network of cities into one hyper-dense metropolis housing the entire population of the earth? Planet City is a film set in an imaginary city for 10 billion people, where we surrender the rest of the world to a global scaled wilderness and the return of stolen lands. The film follows a continuous festival procession dancing through the city on a 365 day loop. Each day it intersects with a different carnival, culture and celebration, endlessly cycling through new colors, costumes and cacophonies...</image:caption>

In these new World Games, players could reject the machinic eye of satellite imagery and see the world through painterly techniques. They might become virtual building elements and collaborate with others to construct new worlds. The erosion of spatial reference points shifted our mode of existence from Cartesian coordinates to a fluid, interrelational field of moving bodies. Social distancing became the only stable metric, echoing Edward Hall’s proxemic theory—space was no longer fixed but centered on the self and chosen nuclei of proximity. As Debord argued, the city became a fictionalized landscape, reconstructed through fragmented recollections. Pandemic space dissolved embeddedness, rendering place obsolete, while pervasive disorientation redrew the geographies of everyday life...</image:caption>

The deer, which we nicknamed Godzilla, is still at-large—last seen where a remote geiger reading came back hot. The Herder arrived in the night, silent, uncanny—twitching its withers, slipping through leaves without sound. It would speak of homes reduced to dust, lives interrupted, futures left unfinished; such destruction is a world too possible. But if rubble could speak, it would not dwell in ruin. It would call for action. To raise walls that shelter, not divide. To restore lives with dignity, not pity. The forests of ‘Rescue Lines’ are designed to offer sanctuary for creatures and species whose own home landscapes have become uninhabitable. As temperatures rise, soils change, and storms grow more turbulent, hardier rootstocks are required; vegetation from hotter and drier regions of the world can thrive in this emerging version of the British landscape. Human migrants will also find solace amidst these linear parks that knit together distant regions. As forests reclaim old land, the past becomes all the more important. Archaeologists working for the ‘Rescue Lines’ project travel ahead of the expanding forests, documenting and surveying the foundations and roads of old towns and villages, helping to preserve the myths and memories of what once stood here before the woods arrived...</image:caption>
